What’s Got You Down?

Many times at the beginning of a new week, our thoughts are not our friend.  It can be difficult to reign in the negative emotions that want to dominate and have you visualize the week even before you begin it.  We are wise to remember that we do have an adversary who wants to defeat and discourage us.  Not all thoughts originate with you!

Now if it’s an issue you have dealt with a long time and not had much victory over, then all the enemy has to do is get it started and those old records play like the oldies on the radio.  That’s where the renewing of our minds is vital to enjoying life and being able to turn our thoughts back in the direction they need to be headed.

Read Romans 8:31-38.  In part it reminds us that nothing can separate us from God’s love: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Remember, if God is for you, who could be against you that would really matter?  Right?  What on earth is stronger than He?  Many things want us to believe they are impossible, but that is where our God is just getting warmed up.

Ask for His help.  We really can’t be victorious without it.  That’s what it means when the scripture says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  We tend to put the emphasis on the “I” when the emphasis is all about the “Christ”.  It’s through His strength in me that enables and encourages me in things I could never do on my own.

What things do you need to give to Him for help?  What thoughts do you need to arrest and turn around for your week?  Breathe deeply of His love for you and let His grace be like stepping stones.  It’s there for all you need.
