Stay

Too much silence for much too long.  Now we’ve been together again, talked, laughed, enjoyed a hot cup.  The time for departure is drawing near and I dread it.  I’m already missing your presence, missing my eyes upon you.  Already missing what your friendship brings into my life.  Such days we have had before filled with all that life offers, the painful and the joyful, and we have shared.  Isn’t friendship the most remarkable thing?  To join in this walking journey on earthly sod while spirits sore and sing?

I think back to the last time I remained on the words written red, Jesus talking to his spiritual classroom of learners.  Those focused on knowing Him more, focused on all He was trying to deposit in them and make it their own.  He said, “Now I call you my friends.”

The Creator himself created this friendship for us.  He knows the depth of its impact on our hearts when we have at least one other person in this world who knows and understands and allows us to walk in that space in their life.  To be embraced, accepted.  Mutual witnesses.

Someone famous said that to have two or even one close friend in life is to know treasure.  And the one thing I want to say, with fearful hope is, “Please stay a little longer.”

This is my daughter who continues to grow, seek, and slay giants!! I still remember how I felt the first time I saw you. My life was changed forever and I thank my God. And then I held you and knew in that instant that you were already leaving me and it was good. Keep going as fast as you can, don’t look back. Mom
